Hemorrhoids

You do not need to suffer with hemorrhoids! Help is available.

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins that are located in the anal canal.

They are caused by pressure on the veins in the pelvic and rectal areas.

This can happen if you strain to have a bowel movement, have diarrhea or if you are pregnant.

Symptoms of hemorrhoids can include bleeding during a bowel movement, itching and/or rectal pain.

Rectal bleeding can also be a sign of a more serious problem such as rectal or anal cancer.

Many times hemorrhoids can be treated without surgery.

To diagnose hemorrhoids the doctor will perform an exam to evaluate the area.

There are two kinds of hemorrhoids: Internal and external.

If internal hemorrhoids are seen he may perform a procedure in which he ties off the hemorrhoid with a rubber band. By doing this the blood supply to the hemorrhoid is stopped and as a result the hemorrhoid goes away.

Many treatments for hemorrhoids can be done in the office.
